All campus buildings provide a range of recycling opportunities. When a new employee arrives, they are given a desk side recycling collection container for paper, a reusable/refillable water bottle or mug, a Campus Recycling brochure, and R.O.S.E. brochure (contact us at 346-5275 to acquire a desk side recycling kit). Centralized recycling collection sites for paper, food and beverage containers, and other materials are located in each building, department, and office suite. Building users are asked to flatten all cardboard and place it in the cardboard collection containers located by the garbage dumpsters outside of each building.
Recycling opportunities are available for other, less common materials as well. Our materials list enumerates these materials and the procedures for recycling them. All departments are encouraged to send Stop the Junk Mail postcards to companies which send unsolicited mail (contact us for these postcards). Many staff members have generously agreed to be recycling contacts by serving as departmental environmental coordinators. The Program Manager posts to a listserve that is sent to all such coordinators. If you would like to be added to this list, see below for more information. It is strictly due to the commitment of the individuals and departments on campus that Campus Recycling works!
We hope to also make composting opportunities standard in all buildings in the near future. In the meantime, contact us if you and your co-workers would like to participate in this essential sustainable practice. We’ll work with you to set up a composting system for your area or building.
